Maritime Singapore wants to be a global maritime hub for connectivity and innovation according to the International Maritime Centre (IMC) 2030 Advisory Committee. The Committee recently completed its strategic review and submitted a report to the Singapore Government, which includes developing and implementing Industry Transformation Maps (ITMs).
According to the IMC 2030 report, Maritime Singapore will be a centre of excellence for shipping, port, offshore, and maritime-related businesses. Furthermore, Singapore has to create value, and reinforce the network effects that it can offer.
As far as innovation is concerned, Singapore’s IMC must build future capabilities in response to new technologies such as autonomous systems, and artificial intelligence.
Moreover, to improve its production of talents, Singapore has to build a competent workforce with relevant skills as well as a global mindset and outlook.
“As a Global Maritime Hub for Connectivity, Innovation and Talent, Maritime Singapore will be the place to be for global maritime businesses to access multiple opportunities within an innovative and interconnected maritime cluster,” the Committee noted.
In order to achieve this vision, the Committee recommended five strategies, which are the following:
- Expand and deepen the maritime cluster.
- Strengthen interlinkages and network effects.
- Develop a vibrant maritime innovation ecosystem and promote digitalisation.
- Develop a multi-skilled maritime workforce with a global mindset.
- Establish Singapore as a global maritime standard bearer.
