Following the ongoing COVID-19 situation, 21 people onboard “Grand Princess” cruise ship have been infected by the virus. Several days ago, the cruise vessel’s passengers were inside their cabins, waiting for the tests results.
At the moment, Grand Princess remains about ten miles off the coast of San Francisco, waiting to receive permission to dock at Port of Oakland, by the US authorities.
As the ship’s owner, Princess Cruises informed, more than 3.500 are onboard, including 2.422 guests and 1.111 crewmembers.
The disembarkation process for the guests is expected to begin, directed by both state and local authorities.
After the disembarkation, passengers will not be released into the general public, and they will be transferred to medical care facilities.
Moreover, the cruise vessel will depart from San Francisco bay with its crewmembers onboard, under quarantine in order to be treated.
According to Governor’s Office of Emergency Services, following health screenings, guests who are California residents will go to a federally operated facility within California for testing and isolation, while non-Californians will be transported by the federal government to facilities in other states.
…Princess Cruises’ Authorities said.
In light of the situation, the US Coast Guard, will be sending California Health & Human Services teams to provide assistance with medical triage, screening and interviews, and prioritizing those who require the most acute care. To avoid delays, testing will be conducted when guests arrive at their onward destination.
All of us at Princess Cruises offer our sincere gratitude and appreciation to the federal, state and local authorities who are coordinating, collaborating and activating resources and personnel in support of this response to provide care and attend to the health and well-being of our guests and crew.
…as Jan Swartz, president of Princess Cruises concluded.
