”Best Practices from the Flag Perspective
Capt. Theodore Lalas, Regulatory Affairs European Liaison, Marshall Islands Registry analysed the ‘‘Best Practices from the Flag Perspective’‘ at 2015 SAFETY4SEA Athens Forum. He highlighted that in the highly regulated modern shipping industry close cooperation between flag States and port States is of great importance as it can result in fewer ship detentions and the improvement of ship and port operations. He explained that the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) Maritime Administrator is committed to providing the highest quality ship registry services and that it has mandatory classification and statutory survey and certification requirements, carried out and monitored through regular inspections and in close cooperation with Classification Societies, which are recognized by RMI.
