Fire broke out in the cargo hold of the general cargo ship “Michael Putra” in the afternoon of February 28 in the Java sea, about 15 nm south of Bangka Belitung Islands, Indonesia.
According to sources, the Indonesian-flagged ship was carrying 20 people onboard, crew and passengers, and was heading to Bintan Islands, from Tanjung Pinan province.

When the fire broke out, the crewmembers were unable to control it. As a result, all people onboard abandoned the ship, and were later rescued by fishermen.
At the time of the incident, “Michael Putra had a cargo of 17 vehicles, 36 motorbikes and general goods. The latest information reports that the vessel is adrift and still burning.
