Evergreen Marine (EMC) reached an agreement with Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) to order eight 11,000 TEU containerships. Four ships will be owned by EMC’s subsidiary, Greencompass Marine and four more by Evergreen Marine (Hong Kong). The newbuildings will be delivered from the first quarter of 2020 through the second quarter of 2021.
With this order Evergreen Marine wants to continue with its ongoing fleet renewal. After these ships are delivered, Evergreen will redeliver older chartered vessels as their charter periods expire to optimize the efficiency of its fleet.
The ships will be 334 meters long, 48.4 meters wide, and able to carry 19 rows of containers on deck. The vessels will sail at a service speed of 23 knots and can pass through the Panama Canal.
Evergreen also ordered the ships to be equipped with environmental protection devices, including a ballast water treatment system and alternative maritime power to fully comply with the regulations of international maritime agencies and authorities concerned.
